International Women’s Day was commemorated on Wednesday at the Agriculture University Auditorium with a vibrant event organised under the ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’ by Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University and Palampur Municipal Corporation.
Palampur MLA Ashish Butail was the chief guest of the function. He encouraged women to share the knowledge gained during a training camp at the university with other women in their communities. In his address, he stressed the importance of value addition as a means for women to boost their income. He also visited an exhibition showcasing products created by women from self-help groups and students of the College of Community Science. Praising the quality, skill and dedication of the products, he praised the efforts of these women entrepreneurs.
Guest of honour Vice Chancellor Naveen Kumar shared insights about the two-day training programme organised by the College of Community Sciences for the self-help groups operating in the Palampur weekly market under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. He highlighted the university’s active involvement in rural development since 2016 as part of the initiative. VC Kumar urged women to prioritise the quality of their products and suggested engaging local youth in the process to further enhance their entrepreneurial efforts.
