Palampur, July 11

State-run Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya in Palampur town in the picturesque Kangra valley has developed an immune-boosting herbal tea to combat Covid-19.

“The tea contains scientifically-proven antioxidant properties to help in boosting immunity against fungal, bacterial and viral diseases,” said Vice-Chancellor Ashok Kumar Sarial.

The proposed value-added tea bags were expected to help improve the immunity to a great deal and also to expand the scope of revenue generation to the university, he added.

The Department of Tea Husbandry and Technology of the university has about 44 hectares of tea orchards spread over three farms. A tea processing unit has been operating in the department to manufacture organically certified and FSSAI-licensed orthodox made tea — green and black — up to 40,000 kg per year.
