Palampur varsity holds induction programme for new BSc students

The College of Basic Sciences, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSKHPKV), Palampur, organised a three-day “Deekshaarambh” Student Induction Programme for newly admitted BSc First Year students (Batch 2025). The programme was held under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with a focus on holistic and flexible learning.

The initiative is designed to help students adapt to the academic, social and cultural environment of higher education. It also aims to familiarise them with institutional ethos, build confidence and instil a sense of purpose and belonging.

Vice Chancellor Prof Naveen Kumar, in his message, said, “Deekshaarambh provides young students with the right beginning and instilling them with confidence, discipline and purpose. Such initiatives under the NEP are vital to nurture responsible, future-ready citizens who contribute positively to society.”

The inaugural session featured motivational addresses by Dr R K Kapila, Dean (Postgraduate Studies), who encouraged students to pursue self-growth and contribute meaningfully to society, and Dr Rajan Katoch, Dean (College of Basic Sciences), who urged them to embrace curiosity and pursue purpose beyond academics. Programme Coordinator Dr Manjula Sharma underlined the importance of holistic learning and the objectives of the induction.

Over the three days, students explored the academic and practical ecosystem of the university through visits to the library, horticulture farm, seed production unit, mushroom farm, organic farm, dairy farm and fisheries department, gaining hands-on exposure to agricultural and scientific practices.
