A pall of gloom descended on Indian Air Force Wing Commander Mohit Rana’s native Bhol village in Sandhol tehsil in the district after the news of his death reached here. He died in an air crash in Barmer, Rajasthan.

Family members said Mohit had visited his village just 15 days ago. His father, Colonel Om Prakash Rana (retd), currently lives in Mohali along with his family. Mohit is survived by his parents, wife and a son.

They said the cremationwould probably be performed in Chandigarh.

On the fateful night of Thursday, a MIG-21 fighter jet with two pilots crashed at Barmer in Rajasthan. In this incident, both pilots were martyred.

Due to Mohit’s sudden demise, his family and relatives are in a state of shock.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has expressed grief over the demise of the two pilots. He said their exemplary services to the nation would always be remembered.

He added the people of the state were with the family of martyr Mohit Rana in this hour of grief. He prayed for peace to the departed soul and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
