Panchayat chief booked for forgery

The police registered a forgery and cheating case against Sugandha Mahajan, pradhan of Haathi Dhar gram panchayat in Nurpur development block, on Saturday evening. Jasbir Singh, panchayat secretary, lodged a complaint against the pradhan alleging that she transferred Rs 3 lakh through bank RTGS in favour of a person named Vijay Kumar on March 5, fraudulently.

Sahil Arora, DSP, Nurpur, said following the complaint of alleged financial fraud with government funds, a criminal case under Sections 409, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC was registered against the pradhan and investigation was underway. Meanwhile, the panchayat pradhan denied the allegations. — OC
