The Municipal Corporation, Shimla, has constituted a committee to ascertain the town’s vehicle parking capacity.

The panel was constituted during the recent meeting of the Finance Contract and Planning Committee (FCPC) of the Corporation. The committee headed by Joint Commissioner Bhuwan Sharma will prepare a detailed ward-wise report of all parking facilities and will present the same during the next FCPC meeting scheduled to take place next month.

The report will include details such as the total number of small and big parking spaces in each ward, the number of vehicles currently being parked there, the unutilised capacity, and the revenue generated from each parking facility. The report will then be submitted to the Mayor for further action.

Besides, Mayor Surender Chauhan has directed the Estate Branch Inspector and Junior Engineer (JE) of the Building and Roads Branch to conduct ward-wise field verification of parking facilities.

It was mentioned during the meeting that despite having the capacity to park 6,000 vehicles, the corporation was not earning sufficient revenue from these facilities. The lack of coordination between departments was stated to be the primary reason behind inadequate revenue generation from parking facilities.
