Pardeep Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Soil Science and Water management, was elected member of the Senate at Dr Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan.

He defeated Subash Sharma, Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences, in a direct contest. Election for the Senate in the constituency of Associate Professors/Professors were held on September 25 and the results was declared last evening.

Of the 103 votes polled, Pardeep polled 54 votes against 48 by Sharma. One vote was declared invalid.

Pardeep Kumar has also remained president of Central Student’s Association in 1993-94 and played a significant role in securing 70 per cent reservation for forestry graduates in direct recruitment of Range Forest Officers and for securing posts of Horticulture Development Officer in the state.

He has also served as general secretary of University Teacher’s Association during 2013-2015 period. Besides working for clearance of pending dues of serving teachers and pensioners, he successfully raised the demand for increasing the grant-in-aid of the university with the then state government. Pardeep Kumar thanked the members of teaching community of his constituency for electing him as Senate member.
