The second wave of the Covid pandemic has left children orphaned and women widows. Many families are struggling for their survival. There are instances where children have lost parents and are left in the lurch. Unfortunately, the government’s help to such families is yet to pour in.
After travelling for one-and-a-half hour from Palampur, the reporter reached Dakbagra village near Jogindernagar on the Pathankot-Mandi national highway where Covid had snatched the parents of 16-year-old Vishal and 9-year-old Pari. Now, only their grandmother has been left behind to look after the schoolchildren.
They are not ready to accept the truth that their parents are no more. The hapless children, sitting in the veranda of a small house, said first their mother was infected and later their father. He was looking after their mother while she was in home isolation.

SDM, Jogindernagar, Amit Mehara had visited the family a few days ago and assured them all possible support from the government. He also promised that the benefits under the scheme recently launched for the orphaned children would also be extended to Pari and Vishal.
So far, seven children have become orphans in Himachal. The government will provide a financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month to the children till 18 years.
