At least eight persons were injured and four vehicles and two two-wheelers were damaged when the driver of a trolley carrying cars failed to apply brakes and hit the vehicles in Rajiana on the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway late last evening.
Kangra sub divisional police officer Sunil Rana today said a trolley carrying cars was on its way to Nagrota Bagwan when the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit a car, which in turn hit another car and later a jeep.
A motorcycle and a scooter were also hit and the riders injured. This led to a major traffic jam on the National Highway for more than one hour.
Some of the injured were identified as Trilok Chand, 57, Sanjeev Kumar, 45, both residents of Kholi, Aadi, 4, and Aruna Devi, 28, both residents of Nagrota Bagwan. All the injured were rushed to the Tanda medical college.
A case under sections 279 and 337 of the IPC were registered against the trolley driver for rash and negligent driving. Rajiana residents demanded that a traffic signal be installed at the crossing, which is a junction of roads leading to DRPGMC Tanda, Nagrota Bagwan, Kangra and Yol, to avert more accidents.
