The Patwari and Kanungo Federation has called off its two-week-long strike following a meeting with Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi here today. Over 4,000 revenue officials had been on strike against the government’s decision to shift them from district to state cadre, causing a lot of inconvenience to the general public.

“We have been given detailed information about the move to change our cadre. We have been told that it would not affect our promotional opportunities, nor would it harm our any other interest,” said Satish Chaudhary, president of the Patwari and Kanungo Federation. “As our doubts and apprehensions have been removed, we are calling off our strike. All patwaris and kanungos will resume their duties from tomorrow onwards,” said Chaudhary.

Chaudhary further said that they had been protesting to safeguard the interests of their colleagues. “Next month, 250 patwaris will be promoted as kanungos, we were worried for them. But we have been assured that our interests will not be affected, so we have called off the strike,” he said.
