The Himachal Pradesh Patwari Kanungo Federation today decided that it would resume work only after the state government gives them a written assurance that the notification on changing their cadre from district to state would not be implemented till the federation’s meeting with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in April.

The patwaris and kanungos have been on strike for close to two weeks now, demanding the withdrawal of the notification changing their cadre. The strike is causing a lot of inconvenience to the people as they are not getting the required documents and certificates from the revenue officials.

In a virtual meeting of the union held today, the district heads unanimously decided that the state cadre notification should not be implemented until the government engages in talks with the state executive of the federation. Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for his assurance, federation’s state president Satish Chaudhary said that once the government issues a formal letter, the patwaris and kanungos will end their strike and resume work.

“Our objective is to avoid disrupting public services and to resolve the issue amicably,” said Chaudhary, urging the government to take welfare measures and break the deadlock.
