The Municipal Corporation of Shimla has issued final notices to over 1,000 property tax defaulters in the city. Several government department buildings, including the Central Public Works Department and the Railway Department, are among the defaulters.
The corporation has directed the defaulters to pay the pending amount within 15 days, failing which water and electricity supply to the defaulters would be disconnected.
Bhuwan Sharma, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Shimla, said notices were issued to defaulters, who have been directed to pay the outstanding amount within the stipulated time. Stringent action would be taken against the property tax defaulters, he added.
The matter was also raised during the recent General House Meeting of the Municipal Corporation, in which councillors expressed concern over people as well as government departments not paying property tax to the civic body on time. The Municipal Corporation is also issuing notices to the defaulters of garbage collection bills.
