In celebration of Earth Day, the Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA) organised an engaging and educational Cycling School Programme at Auckland House School for Boys, bringing together environmental consciousness and sporting spirit in a unique initiative.

The event aimed to introduce students to cycling not only as a recreational activity but also as a competitive sport with numerous physical, mental and ecological benefits. The day’s programme was split into two main segments. The first was a theoretical session that highlighted how cycling promotes personal well-being while also contributing to a cleaner, greener environment. This was followed by an exciting practical session, where students geared up for competitive cycling races on the school premises.

The competition concluded with much enthusiasm as the top three cyclists—Shashwat, Agney and Agam—were announced as winners. Adding to the day’s inspiration, the school’s own national bronze medallist, Adhirath Walia, was specially honoured for his achievements and served as a role model for aspiring young athletes.

Ruben John, Principal of Auckland House School for Boys, praised the initiative, saying, “Cycling is not just a sport—it’s a step towards a sustainable lifestyle. We’re dedicated to incorporating more such programmes to inspire our students to embrace cycling in their daily routines.”

Echoing this sentiment, HASTPA president Mohit Sood emphasised the deeper mission behind the event. “Encouraging the youth to take up cycling is vital not only for personal health but also for the environment,” he said. “Our vision is to make Shimla a prominent destination for mountain biking and to foster a lifelong passion for cycling in younger generations.”

The event concluded with a collective message from both HASTPA and Auckland House School, urging students and citizens alike to adopt cycling and other eco-friendly habits in everyday life. The goal, they said, is to move towards a greener, healthier future—one pedal at a time.
