Principal of the Government Medical College, Dr Ramesh Bharti, broke his silence today over allegations of corruption and misconduct, terming them “false and fabricated”. Addressing the media on campus, he claimed that “some people were conspiring to block my professional growth and malign my reputation in society and the department.”
Dr Bharti said he was taken aback by the charges, which surfaced two days ago and were followed by an inquiry led by Dr Rakesh Sharma, Director of Medical Education and Research. He stressed that during his tenure of over two and a half years, he had worked tirelessly to strengthen education, healthcare services and infrastructure at the institution.
The complaint, reportedly filed by a CID employee, alleged corruption and inappropriate behaviour with women staff. Rejecting this, Dr Bharti said the accusations were without merit.
Recalling a similar episode during his tenure at Chamba Medical College, he noted that complaints there had also proven false, stemming from his strict action against an outsourcing company. Confident of being cleared once again, he said, “The truth will come out once the inquiry concludes.”
Earlier, Dr Bharti had not been available for comment.
