The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday took out a Jan Aakrosh rally in Palampur against the “anti-people policies” of the Congress-led state government.

At the rally, BJP leaders said the Congress government, led by CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, had lost the moral right to continue to be in power.

State BJP general secretary Trilok Kapoor, while addressing the rally, said in the last two years of the Congress’ rule, the party has pushed the state and its people to an edge.

Every section of society was fed up with the anti-people policies of the state government, he added.

The Congress had made tall promises in its election manifesto during the Assembly elections of 2022, but failed to fulfill even a single one of them, he added.

He said Congress had promised that Rs 1,500 would be given to every woman in the state. However, not even a single paisa had been given to them, he added.

He said the party had also promised 300 free units of electricity. But instead of providing free electricity, it withdrew the 100 units of free power sanctioned during previous Jai Ram Thakur-led government, he added.

He said, in Kangra district, the Congress had extended the limits of Town and Country Planning Department (TCP) and brought hundreds of panchayats of rural areas in its purview, against the wishes of people. People in rural areas were not even able to construct a cow shed without the approval of TCP, making lives miserable, he said. No one from the state government was listening to the genuine grievances of people, he added.

Kapoor said the government was still facing financial crises despite the people of the state being burdened with high taxes. The enhanced power rates and water charges had added to the burdens of the common man, he said.

He alleged that about 10,000 youngsters, who were recruited on an outsourcing basis by the previous BJP-led government, were removed by the present government.

He said raids were being conducted on businesses of shopkeepers by various departments with an intention to harass them.

Kapoor alleged that Kangra was being discriminated by the Congress. Many projects such as the North Campus of Central University of Himachal Pradesh and the International Convention Centre, funded by the Central Government, had failed to take off.

“The Congress recently celebrated its two years in power. Despite efforts of the state leadership of the party, none of the senior Congress leaders from the Centre participated in the rally. This clearly illustrated that even the top party leaders were also not happy with the working of the present state government,” Kapoor said.

Protest held in Chachian area

BJP workers, led by Kapoor, also held a protest in the Chachian area of the Palampur Assembly constituency.

Workers protested the inclusion of 15 panchayats of the area under the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act.

BJP workers raised slogans against the current state government, and demanded that their areas be excluded from the TCP Act.
