The Directorate of Elementary Education has issued directions that no teacher or group of teachers will be deployed for any activity, training programmes, seminars, etc., without its prior permission. However, exception will be made for election and census duties.

The decision has been taken to ensure teachers are available at schools regularly and the education of students is not interrupted. In primary schools, there are only one or two teachers at many places and the teaching process comes to a complete halt whenever they are not available. “Under no circumstances teachers should be absent from schools and they should complete 220 academic days in an academic year,” said the order issued by Ashish Kohli, Director, Elementary Education.

Kohli stated that if any teacher was deployed elsewhere without the permission of the directorate, the lapse would be viewed seriously and the Deputy Director concerned would be held responsible for it. “If any teacher is to be deployed for any training programme, seminar or any other activity, the prior permission of the directorate will be required,” he added.

The Director said that the teachers needed to dedicate their maximum time and attention to students in their schools to improve their learning outcome. In 2021, the state had finished a poor 21st in the National Achievement Survey (NAS), indicating a fall in the normally high education standards of the state. Stung by the poor performance of the students in the survey, the government and the departments are makings efforts to prepare them to perform better in the upcoming NAS survey.
