Plantation drive at Nauni marks National Safety Day
Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, joined hands with Power Grid Corporation of India to mark National Safety Day with a sapling plantation drive. The event also commemorated the 54th National Safety Day in India, a milestone that underscores over five decades of promoting occupational health and safety.
The theme for this year’s National Safety Day focused on fostering a proactive safety culture, ensuring employee well-being and reinforcing the responsibility of organisations to maintain accident-free workplaces. It called for industries, educational institutions and individuals to embrace sustainable safety practices and cultivate a culture of shared responsibility for safety.
As part of the celebration, a plantation drive was organised under the theme a tree for one’s mother during which 700 saplings of Salix, Bamboo and Himalayan Maple were planted. The initiative symbolised the dual commitment to environmental sustainability and workplace safety, reinforcing the idea that safety and the environment go hand in hand.
Gurdev Sharma, DIG (Traffic), HP Police, an alumnus of the department, attended the event. The faculty, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate forestry students, actively participated in the plantation drive. Also in attendance were Dr SK Chauhan, Director Research; Dr CL Thakur, Dean College of Forestry; Dr HP Sankhyan, Dean Students’ Welfare; Dr DR Bhardwaj, Librarian; Engineer Deepak Bhardwaj from Power Grid Corporation of India; and Dr Rohit Bishist, Head of the Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry.
The event highlighted that safety is a collective responsibility and by adopting advanced safety technologies, spreading awareness, and embracing best practices, we can all contribute to a safer, healthier and more sustainable future.
