Plantation drive held on 75th Van Mahotsav in Kangra’s Jawali

The 75th state-level Van Mahotsav and plantation drive was held in the Jawali constituency of Kangra district on Tuesday. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the event from Shimla, with all 68 constituencies connecting virtually and celebrating the event.
The Nurpur Forest Division organised the activities related to Van Mahotsav in the constituencies of Jawali, Fatehpur, Indora and Nurpur. In the Jawali constituency, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Chander Kumar planted a ‘jamun’ tree to symbolise the government’s commitment towards green initiatives.
During the plantation drive, saplings of different varieties, including jamun, desi mango, alma and peepal were planted. Addressing the gathering, the Agriculture Minister emphasised the importance of planting trees and protecting forests. He reiterated the role of such initiatives in combating climate change and fostering ecological balance.
Presiding over the ceremony, Kumar called upon the youth to come forward in environmental conservation and spread awareness to protect the nature. He said the tree plantation protected biodiversity in the agriculture ecosystem. He said water, forest and land were their heritage and their responsibility was to protect them.
On the occasion, Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) E Vikram highlighted the new plantation target in Kangra district and exhorted citizens to protect the saplings planted during the Van Mahotsav. Nurpur Divisional Forest Officer Amit Sharma was also present on the occasion.
