Anjali Garag, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Panchrukhi in Kangra district, launched a drive to enforce the state government’s ban on plastic, polythene and thermocol products. The initiative aims to ensure strict compliance with the prohibition on the sale, disposal and supply of these materials in the area.
A team led by BDO Garag fined several shopkeepers, fruit and vegetable vendors, and roadside sellers in the Panchrukhi market for violating the ban. The team also seized banned plastic and thermocol products.
“The manufacturing, transportation, storage, distribution and sale of single-use plastic items are prohibited in the state. Products like plastic earbud sticks, balloon sticks, ice cream and candy sticks, polystyrene decorations, and plastic cutlery cannot be sold. A special campaign has been launched to educate the public on adhering to the ban,” Garag said.
