Mandi, July 7

Senior BJP leader Chhavinder Thakur has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appealing for setting up a medical college and multi-speciality hospital between Kullu and Manali.

Highlighting the challenges faced by residents of Kullu and Lahaul and Spiti valleys during the monsoon season, Thakur emphasised that these places become inaccessible due to severed road links, thereby hitting critical healthcare services.

Thakur pointed out that air services between Kullu and Delhi, as well as Chandigarh, were frequently disrupted during the rainy season, complicating the transportation of emergency patients to Mandi and other parts of the state. He stressed the necessity of a medical institution in the region to ensure that residents had access to healthcare facilities both during monsoons and throughout the year.

In the letter, Thakur suggested that if necessary, private land acquisition should be considered for the construction of the medical college and hospital.
