PM USHA grant: HP university to establish five research centres

In a step towards academic transformation, Himachal Pradesh University is set to establish as many as five new research centres by utilising the budget issued under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) MERU scheme.

The decision was taken during a meeting of university’s Project Monitoring Unit, held under chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Mahavir Singh. It also reviewed the progress of ongoing development works and approved several new proposals under the projects sanctioned by the Ministry of Education.

The VC said the centres to be set up include the Himalayan Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience, Cyber Physical System and Artificial Intelligence Centre, Green Energy and Nano-Technology Centre, Indian Knowledge System and Indian Mathematics Research Centre, and the Pahari Culture and Heritage Centre.

“These centres aim to foster advanced research and innovation, and will also be accessible to colleges and educational institutions affiliated with the university for collaborative research work,” he said. The VC further stated that the laboratories within the university will be modernised to enhance research infrastructure.

During the meeting, Prof Joginder Dhiman, Dean Planning and Nodal Officer, presented a detailed plan to the VC. He informed that the Rs 100 crore received will be utilised for construction, maintenance, procurement of equipment, and purchase of essential software.
