In a major crackdown on those selling illicit liquor in the district, the Kangra police have registered nine cases and confiscated about 2 lakh ml of country liquor. The seizures have brought to the fore the fact that cheap country liquor was being smuggled into Kangra district, causing loss of revenue to the state. The smuggled country liquor was being mostly being sold in tea shops located in rural areas of the district.
Kangra SP Shallini Agnihotri said the biggest seizure was made at the Baijnath police station on January 1 in which 1,35,000 ml of country liquor and 15,600 ml of Kingfisher beer were seized from Vishal, a resident of Ashapuri village in the Jaisinghpur area of Kangra district. The liquor was brought to the district in vehicle number HP-53A-9688. A case was registered under Section 39(1)A under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act against Vishal, a driver.
Under the Dharamsala police station on January 1, 6,000 ml of country liquor was seized from the tea and egg shop of Pawan, a resident of the Dari area in Dharamsala. A case was registered under Section 39(1)A under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act at the police station against Pawan.
Under the Nagrota Bagwan police station, 4,500 ml of country liquor was seized from the shop of Pradeep Kumar, a carpenter and resident of the Badol area. A case was registered under Section 39(1)A under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act against the accused.
Under the Lambagaon police station, 5,250 ml of country liquor was seized from the tea shop of Ravikant, a resident the Jaisinghpur area. Under the Palampur police station, 9,000 ml of country liquor was seized from the residential quarter of Balveel, alias Ajay Kumar, a resident of Gehdavi village, Jhanduta tehsil, in Bilaspur district. He was currently residing in Palampur.
In another case registered at the Palampur police station, 65,000 ml of country liquor was seized from the house of Venus, a resident of Ward No. 2, Palampur. Under the Gaggal police station, 4,500 ml of country liquor was seized from the tea shop of Praveen Kumar, a resident of Tiara tehsil at Mukam Bhadiara. In this regard, a case was registered under Section 39(1)A at the police station under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act.
Under the Gaggal police station, 3,750 ml of country liquor was seized from the tea shop of Prem Singh, a resident of Jhirballa village in Salol tehsil at Mukam Sarol Chowk. In this regard, a case was registered under Section 39(1)A of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act at the police station.
Under the Baijnath police station, 6,000 ml of country liquor was seized from the tea shop of Krishna Kumar, a resident of Upper Rajot village in Baijnath tehsil at Mukam Majhairna. In this regard, a case was registered under Section 39(1)A of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act at the police station.
