Police seize smack, charas

Police in Shillai have arrested two men in separate anti-narcotics operations, recovering consignments of smack and charas. On NH 707 near Dhakoli, a patrol team intercepted a pickup (HR58B-3869) and found 2 gm of smack hidden in the dashboard. The driver, Jagtar Singh (40) of Yamunanagar, Haryana, was arrested under the NDPS Act. In another raid at Meens Bazaar, police recovered 955 gm of charas from a roadside eatery. The owner, Jatiram alias Jotia of Jaswi village, was taken into custody. DSP Paonta Sahib Manavendra Thakur said investigations are ongoing.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
