Policy in works, 7 more vendors removed from Shimla markets
A team of the Shimla Municipal Corporation staff removed seven unauthorised street vendors and hawkers from markets of the town for selling their products without permission, even as the civic body is working on a vending policy.
Four street vendors were found selling their wares without permission and licence near Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) and three others were operating in Lower Bazaar. The team of MC officials visited various markets of the town and found the vendors operating in an unauthorised manner.
Tehbazaari Inspector Jyoti Prakash said as the vendors were unable to produce licence, action was initiated against them. He added that the goods of these vendors were confiscated. Every Sunday, a team of MC officials led by the Tehbazaari Inspector inspects the markets of the town to check for the presence of unauthorised vendors.
As per the MC officials, most of the vendors who are caught during the inspection hail from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
At present, the Shimla Municipal Corporation is working on a street vending policy that is expected to be complete by December 30.
As per the proposed policy, the street vendors will be allotted areas in the vending zones that have been identified by the corporation.
The vending zones will be marked with blue lines and will also have the registration number of the said vendor.
