Poll on mind, Congress leaders put up show of unity in Hamirpur
Hamirpur, April 14
Congress leaders of the district put up a united front on the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar here today. It was for the first time after a long time that the leaders of Congress factions were seen together on a platform.
Though together, the split between the supporters of Virbhadra Singh, former Chief Minister, and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, former HPCC president, was visible.
Meanwhile, all three Congress MLAs, namely Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (Nadaun), Inder Dutt Lakhanpal (Barsar) and Rajinder Singh Rana (Sujanpur), were present on the occasion. The function was organised by the SC cell of the district Congress committee.
Sukhu said that Ambedkar was behind framing the Constitution of modern India and people should follow principles enshrined in it. He added that Ambedkar had stressed giving equal status to the weaker sections of society. This was also the ideology of the Congress. He reiterated that the Congress would emerge victorious in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Rajinder Singh Rana, after paying tributes to Ambedkar, said that the Congress would remain indebted to the great leader for his contribution to the country.
He said it was due to the efforts of Sukhu that the Congress was uniting in the district. He added that the BJP had failed on all fronts and the Congress would return to power in the state with a majority.
Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, MLA, said the Congress had worked for the uplift of the weaker section of society.
