The state Directorate of Elementary Education has decided to stop the annual increment of 17 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) who have given below 25% result in the Class X board examinations held in March.

The teachers are posted in 17 schools in Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur and Una districts.

Director, Elementary Education, Ashish Kohli said the decision had been taken to improve the quality of education in government schools. “The step has been taken so that the teachers take their work seriously,” Kohli said.

A total of 116 schools affiliated to the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education had recorded below 25% result, while 30 schools had recorded zero per cent result in the Class X exam.

The department has decided to issue show-cause notices to the teachers, seeking their explanation over the poor performance of the students.

Meanwhile, the Department of Higher Education has also collected data on schools that have registered less than 25 per cent result in Class XII board examination.
