A portion of Matour-Shimla four-lane road near Ranital, about 30 km from Dharamsala, was washed away after heavy rains in the region since Saturday night.

The portion which was washed away was on one side of the four-lane road.

Sources here said the portion of the road sank as the old retaining wall along the road gave away.

The debris from the sunk portion of the road also damaged the Pathankot-Jogindernagar narrow guage railway track.

Despite one portion of the road sunk, the traffic continued to ply on the remaining portion of the road.
