THE journey through the stretch of the left bank road from Manali to Aleo is bound to be a bumpy ride on account of the potholes on the road. Commuters find themselves struggling to navigate through this stretch of the road, and vehicles get damaged frequently. To make matters worse, roadside drains are blocked at many places, leading to water from them flowing onto the road. Pedestrians and two-wheeler riders are bound to get a bath of slush whilst travelling on this stretch. The condition of the road is pitiable for the last two years but the authorities concerned seem indifferent to the situation, despite several reminders. Stern action should be taken against the erring officials responsible for their lax attitude in repair of the road and its condition should be improved without delay. Chaman, Aleo (Manali)

GARBAGE flowing about in the drain near the Chhota Shimla parking is a frequent sight. This could lead to blockage in the drain, inconveniencing residents of the area. Since the area is frequented by tourists, the lack of maintainance of this drain can taint the image of Shimla in their eyes. The authorities concerned should clear the drain at the earliest so that the water flow is not affected. Sahil, Shimla

Irregularities in fourlane construction

THE brunt of the irregularities in the construction of the fourlane stretch between Jia and Ramshila is being borne by the general public. The lack of a proper drainage system led to water entering many houses in Parla Bhuntar during the rains. There is no service lane and no safety measures. Additionally, there is no footpath, causing a great deal of inconvenience to pedestrians. Also, the road has not been properly levelled. The Land Acquisition Act (2013) has not been followed properly, due to which adequate compensation and rehabilitation has not been provided to the persons whose land was acquired. Yuvraj, Bhuntar (Kullu)
