Potmore girls shine

Two visually disabled girls of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Potmore, Shimla, Shalini and Rajni Negi have secured 84.80 and 82.60 per cent, respectively, in Class XII examinations conducted by the HP Board of School Education. Both the girls are proficient in computers and wish to become HAS and music teachers.

Online photography contest

An online photography contest for the school students of Himachal Pradesh was conducted by HP ENVIS Hub, Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE), Shimla, on the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity 2020. The purpose of the competition was to make students observe, appreciate and capture photographs of biodiversity around them. Four themes – butterflies, blooming trees, birds and scenery of nature – were given to students to showcase their talent and total 1,627 entries were received out of which 1,288 (829 in nature, 213 in birds, 150 in butterflies and 96 in trees) valid entries were evaluated by a committee of experts. Nine students were announced as winners in three categories. Aranyaa Sharma from DAV Public School, New Shimla, got the first position in Class VI to XII category, Navya Tomar from DAV School, Nahan, bagged the first place in class IX and X category while Vivart Sharma won in the Class XI and XII category.

Webinar on plagiarism, research

University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, organised a webinar on ‘Scholarly Publishing, Plagiarism and Research Metrics’ as part of the faculty development programme. Vice-Chancellor Dr Parvinder Kaushal said the university can utilise this time for writing quality journals with good citations so that its global ranking can be improved. Dr Veeranjaneyulu, Head, NIT Warangal, gave a detailed presentation on how to write a good paper and get it published in quality journals. Other topics covered during the webinar were various styles of publications, software tools, citation analysis, plagiarism and how to avoid it. The webinar was attended by Director, Research, Dr Rakesh Gupta; Deans Dr ML Bhardwaj, Dr YC Gupta and Dr Bhupender Gupta; Dr KK Kandpal, CTO ICAR IVRI; Dr Kailash D Tandel, Librarian, NAU Navsari; Yashoda Negi, Assistant Librarian; and scientists and students of several universities.
