The Tribune had carried his plight in these columns on August 24 under the headline, ‘Differently abled man not on IRDP list’. Taking cognizance of the story, the Block Development Officer, Nagrota Surian, had visited his house and assured him that the electricity connection would be restored within one week. She had also directed the panchayat pradhan to include his name on the panchayat’s IRDP list.

The electricity supply of Bakshish’s house had been snapped five years ago after he had failed to pay his bill and since then he was using kerosene lamp. Kamal Chowdhary, a local social activist, played a major role in fulfilling the formalities for the purpose. He and an assistant engineer, electrical subdivision, Jawali, shared the penalty amount imposed by the HPSEBL for not paying electricity bill by the villager. Following the intervention of local MLA Arjun Thakur, the authorities of the HPSEBL have reportedly waived the outstanding electricity bill payment.

His name had been struck off from the IRDP list after February 2018.
