Power supply restored in all villages of disaster-hit Seraj

Thirty-nine days after a devastating natural disaster struck the Thunag region of Mandi district, the local administration has made significant progress in providing relief and restoration works. Cloudbursts, flash floods and massive landslides wreaked havoc in the region, severely disrupting daily life. However, determined efforts of the district administration ensured rapid progress in bringing life back on the track.

According to Mandi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Apoorv Devgan, electricity supply was restored in all villages of the Seraj area. Only a few individual household connections were to be reinstated, a task expected to be completed shortly, he said.

Drinking water supply had already been fully restored across all affected villages, he said.

Despite extensive damage to the road infrastructure, 14 major roads were reopened for vehicular traffic, significantly improving mobility in the region. Of the 787 km roads damaged during the disaster, 182 km had already been made motorable, and the work was is progress at a rapid pace on the remaining stretches.

For providing financial support to the disaster-affected population, the SDM office in Thunag processed 905 cases through the Revenue Management System portal, resulting in direct transfer of Rs 3.68 crore into bank accounts of the beneficiaries. This provided much-needed economic relief to the people who lost homes, assets or livelihood sources due to the disaster.

Relief teams successfully reached remote mountainous areas with essential supplies. The administration ensured that no shortage of food or basic necessities occurred even in the most inaccessible regions.

The authorities have assured that the remaining restoration work would be completed on priority in the coming weeks.
