The incident had occurred on Monday wherein 51-year-old Sanjeev Kumar and his 26-year-old son Ravinder Kumar were shot dead.

Addressing mediapersons today, Una Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh said Desh Deep Jaswal, who was also a resident of Bhadsali village, had used a .315 bore double barrel gun to commit the crime, adding that an ongoing land dispute appears to be the reason behind the crime.

The SP said four other accused persons, Ramesh Chand, Anuj Jaswal, Om Prakash and Hardeep Rana alias Huney had been arrested on Monday itself, while Desh Deep, who was absconding, was arrested from a location within Una district today.

He said the weapon used in the crime is yet to be recovered. According to the FIR, deceased Ravinder was in Pandoga village when he received a phone call regarding Ramesh, Anuj, Om Prakash and Hardeep assaulting his father in Bhadsali village. Anuj had reportedly severed one of Sajeev’s fingers with a sickle. On hearing the news, Ravinder rushed to the spot in his XUV.

Meanwhile, the four attackers informed Desh Deep, who was in Una at the time, about the fight. Soon, he left for Bhadsali and enroute, he came across Ravinder’s car. It is alleged that Desh Deep pulled out a gun from the rear seat of his car and fired two shots at Ravinder, critically wounding him. In no time, Ravinder’s parents also reached the scene and Desh Deep fired two more shots, killing Sanjeev Kumar.

Both were declared brought dead at the Una district hospital. The SP said forensic and ballistic experts have visited the crime scene and have collected the data for analysis. A case under Sections 103(1), 109(1), 190, 191(3), 61(2) of the BNS and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act has been registered.
