Pro-VC urges students to excel in diverse fields
Himachal Pradesh University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Rajendra Verma today wished the professors and students on the occasion of Teacher’s Day and said a teacher was a nation builder, who should also introspect from time to time.
While addressing the students and faculty members, he said we should make efforts to make India a superpower.
He also appealed to the students to respect their teachers and study with full dedication in order to achieve their goals. “The goal of life can only be achieved by following discipline, which also brings glory to the university,” he added.
He also encouraged the faculty members to motivate the students to engage in social activities, apart from striving to excel in the fields of academics and research. He urged them to foster a harmonious relationship with students to preserve the university’s educational environment.
Former professor Abhiraj Rajender Mishra expressed his concern over the current state of the Sanskrit language and said there was a need to immediately think about the way the language, which gives direction to the world, was today in a state of decline.
“Today, if India is moving towards becoming the world leader, then the Sanskrit language has a major role in it, and thousands of sages and saints have tirelessly worked to bring our country to this position. They increased knowledge here through Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads and made India the best in the world through this language in the fields of academics and teaching,” he said.
Mishra further said change was the rule of time and in this process, new people came in the universe and provided new information and knowledge to the society through their knowledge pursuit.
He said on Teacher’s Day, teachers should truly imbibe the treasure of knowledge of India and provide new dimensions and possibilities to the world by spreading their knowledge.
In his address, psychologist SN Ghosh threw light on the role of Indian knowledge repository in human civilisation. He said just as bees gave the message of mutual brotherhood and living life through their web, similarly man also influenced the society through his actions and activities, inculcating the knowledge given by his teachers through education.
In his address, Dean (Studies) BK Shivaram said we were very fortunate that we got the opportunity to work as teachers. He said on this day, we remembered the second President and teacher Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. It was due to his efforts that we had the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS) near the university to receive higher education, he said.
Dean (Student Welfare) Mamta Mokta thanked the teachers for their dedication and congratulated them on the day. Similar programmes to celebrate Teacher’s Day were also organised in all departments of the university.
