Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur today met Union Minister for Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal and sought his intervention and a high-level inquiry into the alleged scams in the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur.

Anurag urged the HRD Minister to thoroughly investigate the issue pertaining to the appointment of faculty members and the fall in the ranking of the institute.

He said several complaints were received in March, wherein it was alleged that merit was ignored in the appointment of faculty members and other positions. The HRD Minister was apprised of the matter at that time and he had assured to investigate the issue. He said in the wake of the Covid-induced lockdown, the matter had been pending.

The INRF ranking of the institute has gone down to the 98th position against the 64th last year. There are allegations from various sections, including from Sujanpur MLA Rajender Rana, that the merit was ignored in the selection of employees. Anurag said the HRD Minister had assured him that investigations would be initiated.
