Probe ordered against med college principal over ‘misconduct’

The Department of Medical Education and Research has initiated an inquiry against Dr Ramesh Bharti, Principal of Dr Radhakrishanan Government Medical College and Hospital, over allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards women trainees and staff.

According to official sources, several trainees and employees, including students, nursing staff and paramedics, submitted a complaint to the government alleging misconduct by Dr Bharti.

Acting on the complaint, the government constituted a four-member committee on August 30 to investigate the matter. The panel is headed by Dr Rakesh Sharma, Director of Medical Education and Research, with Dr Milap Sharma, Principal of Tanda Medical College, Dr Parveen Kumar Sharma, Controller of Examinations at Atal Medical and Research University, and Dr Ritu Shitak, Professor of Pharmacology at Hamirpur Medical College, as members.

The inquiry committee, directed by Special Secretary (Health) Ashwani Kumar Sharma, was asked to submit its report within seven days. Over the past week, the panel visited the medical college, interacted with complainants, and recorded their testimonies. Sources confirmed that statements of nearly 35 individuals were documented as part of the investigation.

Dr Rakesh Sharma confirmed that the committee had carried out the inquiry but declined to disclose its findings, stating he was not authorised to comment. The final report is expected to be submitted to the government within the next two days.
