Prof booked for sexually harassing college student

A professor, posted in a government college, has been booked for sexual harassment, criminal intimidation and assaulting a 20-year-old student with an intent to outrage her modesty, the police said today.
As per the reports, in her complaint filed in the Women Police Station, the student, who hails from Arki in Solan district, had alleged that she was being sexually harassed by a professor for a very long time.
The complainant had also alleged that the professor was also threatening to kill her if she disclosed her ordeal to anyone. On her complaint, the police registered the case under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (Sexual harassment) and section 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and has initiated the investigation.
According to the police, the case was registered under Sections of the IPC instead of the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 as the incident had occurred before the new criminal law came into force.
