Project for digital connectivity in rural areas launched

The State Network Operations Centre (S-NOC) of the BharatNet project-III was today initiated by Anil Kumar Gupta, Chief General Manager of BSNL, Himachal Telecom Circle, and Rajesh Rai, chairman and Managing Director of Indian Telephone Industries Limited at Solan today.

The Government of India has launched a project to connect all gram panchayats across the country to the IP-MPLS network under the BharatNet Phase-III project. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is implementing this project on behalf of the Government of India. This modern S-NOC will monitor the connectivity of all gram panchayats (GPs) in Himachal Pradesh and will assist in providing connectivity to consumers at the last mile.

This project will be implemented by ITI Limited in Himachal Pradesh. Under this scheme, 3,615 gram panchayats will be connected to 91 block headquarters via 10Gbps bandwidth, which will be connected to the BSNL IP-MPLS network. This connectivity will be extended to 15,538 villages across the state. Approximately 20,000 kilometres of optical fiber cable (OFC) will be laid in Himachal Pradesh for this project.

This project is a significant step towards digital connectivity and rural empowerment in Himachal Pradesh, which will assist in providing high-speed broadband services in rural areas. The successful implementation of this project will give a new dimension to the digital revolution in Himachal Pradesh and make high-speed internet service available in every village, promoting education, health, business, and e-governance. It is an important step towards realizing the "Digital India" vision, informed the officials.

On this occasion, BSNL's Senior General Manager Jaspal Singh, ITI Limited's Director (Finance) Rajeev Shrivastava, Project General Manager of ITI Limited Namita, along with other officials and staff from BSNL and ITI Limited were also present.
