The Himachal Pradesh government has envisaged a special project to streamline the power distribution network in Shahpur Assembly constituency of Kangra district under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
The Deputy Chief Whip and Shahpur MLA, Kewal Singh Pathania, while presiding over a review meeting of the RDSS North Zone held at the office of the Chief Engineer, Electricity Department, in Dharamsala yesterday, said the scheme was aimed at modernising the state’s power distribution system and to make it transparent and consumer-friendly.
He said works worth Rs 7.74 crore had been sanctioned for Shahpur constituency. These included cabling, feeder bifurcation, installation of new HT lines, strengthening of transformers, upgradation of LT lines, construction of a new 33 kV line and strengthening of 11 kV lines. Renovation of old transformers and wires, along with installation of smart meters, would also be taken up on priority to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply to consumers.
Pathania directed officials of the department to conduct regular field inspections and address consumer complaints at the earliest. He further urged private companies to contribute to corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in the power sector. He said ITI trainees should be involved in ongoing projects for local skill development.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer Ajay Gautam, Superintending Engineer Aman Kumar, Executive Engineers Vikas Thakur, Amit Sharma and Virendra Kumar, along with representatives of two private power companies.
