Promoting tourism in Kangra our priority: DC
Hemraj Bairwa, a 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer has joined as Deputy Commissioner of Kangra — which happens to be the most populous and politically most significant district of Himachal Pradesh.
Focus on roads

Bairwa will be the 109th Deputy Commissioner of Kangra. The journey of Deputy Commissioners in Kangra district started way back in 1840s with Edward Leke being the first to hold this coveted post.
A technocrat from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bairwa has earlier held important posts in the state.
He has recently served as Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner, the home district of the Chief Minister.
Hemraj Bairwa shared
his vision for the district
in an interview with
Raghav Guleria. Excerpts:
What would be your priorities for Kangra district?
The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh has a vision of making Kangra the tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh.
My priority would be to expedite the multiple projects already initiated by the government.
What precisely would be the roadmap?
The administration shall facilitate and coordinate with various other departments for the fulfilment of government’s vision.
The administration would also focus on the condition of roads for better connectivity. The water channels which come from perennial sources shall be taken care of. We would look forward to help people become self-reliant to make better contribution to society.
How do you find the present assignment?
Kangra district is known for its diversity as on one side it has snowclad Dhauladhar and on the other the plains of Nurpur, Jawali and Indora. There are natural challenges which need to be timely addressed by the district administration.
It would be satisfying to facilitate people living in remote areas.
