Traders in Solan downed their shutters for a few hours today in protest against an anti-encroachment drive launched by the district administration. Led by SDM Dr Punam Bansal, a team of municipal staff and police began demarcating encroachments from 10:30 am. They identified and removed hanging billboards, iron grills and concrete extensions outside shops. Encroachments have long posed a challenge in Solan, with many shopkeepers displaying wares on roads or concrete platforms.
