Dharamsala, April 13

Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) president Sikyong Penpa Tsering said eradication of unemployment among the Tibetan exiles was among the top priorities of his government. Sikyong is currently on a week-long official visit to Tibetan settlements across Delhi, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra. He gave this statement after meeting a group of unemployed Tibetans.

The statement of CTA president assumes significance after reports of rise in unemployment among Tibetan exiles living in India.

During his visit to Phendeling Tibetan settlement in Mainpat of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, yesterday, Sikyong addressed the Tibetan residents about the 16th Kashag’s objective and reported on its activities so far.

After assuming the office in June last year, Sikyong visited numerous settlements across India, including Ladakh, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok and the Tibetan settlements in Uttarakhand. Sikyong said he would be visiting the Tibetan settlements in Northeast India in June.

Highlighting the gravity of the existing situation inside Tibet, where the Chinese Government continues to repress the Tibetan language, shutting down private schools, religious freedom etc. to name a few, Sikyong proposed the benefits of the middle way approach to resolving this conflict and explained it to the gathering.
