Psycho-social care is very important during disaster: DC

The two-day special workshop on "Psycho-Social Care" organised by the Disaster Management Authority concluded here today at Bachat Bhawan.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said managing people's mental state during a disaster is the biggest challenge. “During such times, all of us have a big role to play. By supporting each other, we can reduce the impact of the disaster. Psycho-social care is extremely important in rescue operations,” he said.

He said that last year's Samej tragedy in Rampur area was very painful but has given us many lessons to learn. “We had made every possible effort to deal with the disaster. In this connection, the activism of the administration has been increased to deal with the disaster immediately and people's participation is also being increased,” he said.

He said the district administration had completed all the preparations for monsoon preparations and nodal officers have been appointed across the district. Strict action will be taken against the nodal officer who shows negligence during the disaster.

During the two-day workshop, detailed information was given on the importance of psycho-social care, impact of disaster on children and what techniques should be adopted with children, impact of disaster on women and during disaster management, gender sensitivity, psychological techniques with senior citizens during disaster and psycho-social care.

During the workshop, the Samej tragedy was depicted through a short play. The steps taken for psycho-social care during this disaster were also explained in detail. District Disaster Management Authority CEO Jyoti Rana gave detailed information about the workshop.

Representatives from various stakeholder departments participated in the workshop.
