What was meant to be a night of devotion and festivity in Jamta almost turned into panic when a police quick response team (QRT) vehicle rolled out of control and crushed two parked motorcycles. The late-night incident, unfolding during the bustling Navratri fair, damaged the vehicles and drew angry reactions from locals, though luckily no one was hurt.

Eyewitnesses recalled that the QRT vehicle was attempting to reverse from the Panjahl side towards the Nahan-Dadahu road around 10:45 pm when it first halted and then unexpectedly lurched backward a second time. The vehicle rammed into the hillside, dragging two motorcycles under its weight. The accident immediately sparked uproar as a large crowd gathered at Jamta Chowk. Many blamed the driver for negligence, pointing out that the area was already jam-packed with devotees and visitors.

Earlier in the day, Jamta had seen heavy footfall for the Ashtami Navratri fair, with cultural programmes lined up for the evening. But heavy rain disrupted the festivities, forcing people to head home late at night—precisely when the mishap occurred. The commotion settled only after police officials assured the owners of the damaged motorcycles that repairs would be borne by the department.

Confirming the development, Sirmaur ASP Yogesh Rolta said an amicable settlement had been reached.
