Dharamsala, June 8
A man consumed sanitiser in an institutional quarantine at Jwalamukhi last evening. He was taken to Tanda medical college and his condition is stated to be stable, though his eyesight has been affected.
Kangra DC Rakesh Prajapati said the man, Tilakraj, had some medical problems. His eyesight was very weak and he was also suffering from psychological problems.
“We are getting him examined and only the medical reports will reveal as to what was consumed by him,” he said. He is a resident of Jwalamukhi and had returned to the district from Ropar in on May 30.
Sources said the issue brought to the fore stress being faced by people in institutional quarantine. Though the district administration had created good facilities at these centres, people were facing stress due to stigma attached with Covid-19.
In many cases, people claimed that even after they were discharged from the centres, those in their own villages avoided meeting them.
Even shepherds, who reached their villages in Kangra district from the lower areas of state, had to face social boycott.— TNS
