Fifty young villagers hailing from Saddun panchayat and the nearby areas of Nagrota Bagwan constituency have set an example for others by tying radium belts on 100 stray animals. These shining strips would make them visible from a distance and protect them from the fast-moving traffic at night.

Headed by Balvinder Singh Babloo, president of Anti-Terrorist Front, the youngsters catered to these cattle on the road at Nagrota Bagwan, Samloti, Sulaah and Bhavarna.

Talking to The Tribune, Babloo said, “There is acute shortage of shelters for the animals that have been discarded from their household. Roaming here and there, these are vulnerable to collisions with the fast-moving vehicles, resulting in fatal accidents.” He expressed gratitude to the youth of various panchayats for their cooperation for a noble cause.

There were frequent reports of stray animals on the roads and the youth assembled together to find a way out. It was decided to purchase 200 radium belts and put them around the neck of stray animals so that they were visible even in the dark.
