Kullu Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Garg today said the Asian Rafting Championship will be organised in the district for the first time. He added that the championship will be organised under the joint aegis of the World Rafting Federation and the Indian Rafting Federation and will be held from September 16 to 25.

“Twenty teams from Asian countries will participate in the championship and one team will also be from Himachal Pradesh. Teams will comprise both men and women,” he added.

The DC said the championship would be inaugurated on September 16 in Manali while the closing ceremony would be held at Atal Sadan in Kullu on September 25. More than 100 players will participate in the championship.

The DC also held a meeting with officials of different departments to discuss arrangements. He constituted various committees for the purpose.
