Congress leader Rahul Gandhi usually speaks mindlessly and becomes the laughing stock of people. No one takes him seriously now, said Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, here today. He was talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a Tridev Sammelan organised at Basant Resort, near here. He said that Rahul Gandhi’s statement that the youth in Uttar Pradesh were engaged in drug abuse was the result of his frustration and fear of losing the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He said that Rahul Gandhi should not forget that four generations of his family were elected from Uttar Pradesh. He added that people would not forget his statement and the Congress would not win even one seat in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha elections.

Anurag said that the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh had failed to meet the expectations of people and fulfil the poll guarantees. He added that it had neither provided jobs to five lakh people nor started purchasing cow dung and milk, as promised before the last Assembly elections.

He said that the BJP had registered big wins in the recent Assembly elections in three states. Even earlier the party had won the Lok Sabha elections when the Congress had governments in various states. He added that this time, too, the BJP would win the Lok Sabha elections comfortably. He claimed that the BJP would win over 370 seats while the NDA would secure over 400 seats.

Earlier, while addressing the Tridev Sammelan, Anurag said that workers were the backbone of the BJP and every worker should work to improve the vote margin in his polling booth. He added that the Union Government had started a number of welfare schemes for every section of society and people should be made aware of these.

He said that a number of development works, including the setting up of AIIMS at Bilaspur, Hydro Engineering College, Bilaspur, Medical College, Hamirpur, and highway construction, were accomplished in the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had envisioned to make India a developed nation by 2047.

Anurag later addressed another ‘Tridev Sammelan’ of the Kutlehar BJP at Thanakalan village in Bangana subdivision of Una district. He spoke about developmental works and welfare schemes initiated by the Narendra Modi government. He called upon party workers to make people aware of the Central Government’s achievements.

He said some Congress leaders in Himachal were in a habit of raising a hue and cry while their performance in ensuring development and public welfare was zero. — OC

Centre provided immediate disaster relief

The Central Government had provided immediate relief to the state after heavy rains caused extensive damage last year. The Centre gave thousands of crores of rupees to the state for the repair of damaged roads and bridges, besides grants for the construction of houses of economically weaker sections of society. — Anurag Thakur, union minister for information and broadcasting
