Rain batters Himachal: Over 600 roads closed, yellow alert in place

Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under the impact of heavy rain, with as many as 650 roads—including three national highways—remaining blocked across the state.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the worst-hit district is Mandi with 246 roads blocked. In Kullu, 172 roads are affected, including National Highways 03 and 305.

Other affected areas include Shimla (58 roads), Kangra (45), Chamba (38), Sirmour (24), Una (23, including NH 503A), Solan (17), Bilaspur (13), Hamirpur (12), and Kinnaur (2).

In addition to road closures, power and water supply systems have been severely disrupted.

A total of 185 transformers are non-functional—93 in Kullu, 64 in Mandi, 24 in Chamba, and 4 in Shimla—leaving many areas without electricity.

Furthermore, 343 water supply schemes have been impacted: 176 in Kangra, 61 in Shimla, 53 in Mandi, 27 in Hamirpur, 17 in Chamba, 6 in Kullu, 2 in Sirmour, and 1 in Solan district.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather warning for Sunday, predicting continued heavy rain in the districts of Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Sirmour.
