Rain Fury: Cracks appear on Bhagsunag-waterfall path

The incessant rain has wreaked havoc in the Mcleodganj-Bhagsunag region of Dharamsala with a path from Bhagsunag temple to waterfall badly damaged. Roads connecting small habitations spread along the Dharamsala-Mcleodganj-Bhagsunag-Dharamkot stretch have also been ravaged by the rain.
Rain shelter collapses near St John’s church
- A rain shelter near St John’s Church in McLeodganj in upper Dharamsala has collapsed due to heavy rain. No loss of life was reported.
- The rain shelter midway on the McLeodganj-Forsythganj road was useful to locals as well as tourists, especially during the rainy season.
- Prem Sagar, a social activist and a resident of the area, has asked the authorities concerned to reconstruct the rain shelter without delay in public interest.
Big cracks have appeared on the Bhagsunag to waterfall stretch, posing a threat life and property. Landslides have become a common occurrence on roads around Dharamsala-McLeodganj. Experts feel that unscientific construction has disturbed natural drains, resulting in frequent landslides.
Heavy rain has been reported in the upper Dharamshala area, where many hotels and other commercial establishments have come up in the recent past.
Tourists and locals are at risk due to the poor condition of the roads that need immediate repair. Monika Pathania, Councillor of Ward 2 of Dharamsala Municipal Corporation, said the road leading to the waterfall via Bhagsunag temple has started sinking. She assured that the stretch would be repaired soon.
