Rain, hailstorm lash state, more forecast till May 8

Several parts of the state, including Shimla and its adjoining places, were lashed by rain and a thunderstorm since Thursday evening. Hailstorm was also reported in some other areas of the state, including Shimla district, causing damage to apple crop and vegetables. In Shimla city, a massive tree uprooted and fell on a few vehicles, damaging them. Also, traffic was disrupted for some time. Gusty winds blew in Kufri, Bilaspur, Reckong Peo, Narkanda, etc.

According to the weather department, there’s a possibility of a wet spell and a thunderstorm activity in some parts of the state till May 8. It has issued a yellow alert for a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 50 kmph to 60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph, at as few places in Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu and Shimla districts tomorrow. An isolated hailstorm activity is likely in Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kullu and Shimla districts tomorrow.

As per the forecast, light to moderate rainfall is likely at a few places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, and Kinnaur districts up to May 5 and at isolated places from May 6 to 8. Many spells of light to moderate precipitation are likely in some tourist destinations today onwards till May 8.
